Fennel: Foresight

According to Greek myth, Prometheus brought fire to humanity by carrying burning coals in a fennel stalk.  The name Prometheus means "foresight", so it's also appropriate that fennel is known to support eye health.  In this painting, the fennel stems emerge from a glowing stalk-what fire is held within?
